Mother Africa
At sixty-seven, I visited South Africa with fifteen peers from Drew University’s Divinity Exchange Program in South Africa. We attended a Zulu Shembe Church service in Ozwathini. The members are prohibited from pork, smoking, and premarital sex. Attendees removed shoes and women covered their heads. Seated separately on the ground, in their outdoor sanctuary, were males, females and female virgins. Men only spoke during the service. The most revered woman's face reflected Africa's history. Mother Africa.
